You should know what to bring on a day hike. Are you going out for a trip, adventure or will you go hiking? Whatever the case, there are things that you cannot afford to leave behind. Your adventure may be quite frustrating especially if you don’t have the necessities. Many times, you might be too eager to go to that trip, but again you are not sure of what to put in your bag. To make things even easier for you, we can discuss the preferences of the must-have hiking gear. You should never go for any outdoor adventure without your gear. Hiking essentials Sun protection Most people underrate the importance of this equipment. However, sun protection is quite important especially during the backcountry trips. Be sure to pack some lip balm, sunglasses and sunscreen in your bag even during cloudy weather. During hiking trips, protective clothing and brimmed hat are quite essential. Sun protection equipments protect you from bad sunburns, cracked and bleeding lips. Note that serious conditions for instance snow blindness can be caused by sun`s power. Lighting equipment I always carry a flashlight whenever I go for a trip or an adventure even when I have no plans of being out late in the night. That seems absurd but things don't always turn up as planned or expected. At times, circumstances may force you to stay out longer than usual and it would be such a bad experience if one gets lost in the darkness. If you have a headlamp with you, you can easily find your way home. In addition, your phone can be a source of light too. Prior to hiking, I always examine my headlamp batteries, just to make sure I am fully juiced. First Aid equipments You can’t afford to leave home without a fully packed first aid kit. It should be reliable and lightweight so that it can help you in case of minor ailments when hiking. Nutrition Hiking requires a lot of energy and for this reason be sure to carry calories that are enough to provide the needed energy. You can bring snacks such as nuts, dried fruits & jerky if you wish. Hydration Water is an essential element as far as hiking, trips and adventures are concerned. You should always stay hydrated. Water will enhance cooling of the body concurrently allowing smooth running of your system activities. A well hydrated body allows the joints and the muscles to function normally preventing any injuries while hiking. Foot wear During summer, spring and fall hiking trip, I always ensure that I have trail runners. These are suitable in that they are lightweight and comfortable. They dry in no time and you can’t get any blisters in them. Did I say they also offer outstanding traction? They are indeed the best fit. With trail runners, you will no longer need hiking boots for ankle support, water protection since the later cater for all these factors. Trowel and toilet paper You must have seen dirty toilet paper during your backcountry hiking trips. The reason for this is that most hikers and travelers don't care when it comes to proper disposal of their waste. During your hiking trip, you may want to commune with nature. Be sure to dig a cat hole, 6-8 inches will do and dispose the waste inside and cover it. With a toilet paper and a trowel, you won't have to litter the environment. Better yet, you may even bring a portable toilet with you.
